Cross-Selling is a sales technique that urges customers to buy additional, related, or complementary products; its goal is to increase the value of the initial purchase. It differs from Upselling, which aims to convince the customer to choose a more expensive product and/or additional features.
Cross-Selling is highly effective in eCommerce because it displays related items to customers who are viewing a product or already have it in their shopping carts. The most common techniques are “bundling” (packaging items that naturally go together) and “visual aids”– images or videos urging the customer to buy a package, not a single item (e.g., “Shop the look” in fashion or “Shop the interior” in furniture).
