Top 39 Shopify Stores to Watch out for in 2022

If you’re looking for some inspiration for the best performing and downright cool Shopify stores, we’ve got you covered!

From the strongest coffee in the world to the most comfortable shoes ever, the top Shopify stores come in all manner of shapes and sizes. While this means there’s plenty of beautiful, funky, and intriguing stores out there, it can make it tricky to find the best Shopify websites for your niche.

To help you gather some website inspiration for your own Shopify store, we’ve spent hours scrutinizing websites from all walks of life. We’ve:

  • Checked their ranking on Alexa and made sure it’s on the rise
  • Looked at where the company is based and where their customers are
  • Checked out which Shopify theme they’re using
  • Considered what makes them great

…All to create a list of the best Shopify stores and give you some inspiration for your own e-commerce business.

Food & Drink

It can be tricky to know what businesses use Shopify, and even harder to find out which are performing the best. These websites all operate in the food and drink industry and are among the best Shopify stores out there.

1. Death Wish Coffee

death wish coffee

Alexa Rank: #28,066

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: With a rebellious “we dare you” attitude, Death Wish Coffee is one of the coolest Shopify websites we’ve come across. Their claim of being the “world’s strongest coffee” almost poses a challenge to buyers that they need to be tough in order to cope with this product - complete with a warning that the product is “highly addictive.”

The hard-as-nails tone is consistent throughout the site’s blog (“3 reasons why you hate your coffee”), right down to the invitation to sign up to the newsletter (“never miss a mug”). This all adds up to an irresistible sense of rebelliousness and a hard-core spirit that’s tough to ignore. As well as a brilliant way of solving a problem you didn’t know you had in a no-nonsense manner (your coffee is rubbish, try this super-intense caffeine hit instead!).

But all this hard-core persona doesn’t mean the store isn’t user-friendly. In fact, the entire website is incredibly simple to deal with, with straightforward navigation between coffee, merch, and subscriptions. To further improve the customer experience, the first thing you’ll find on the homepage (after the subscription popup) is Death Wish Coffee’s latest release. Scroll down to discover the product that started it all - the original DWC - complete with an easy add-to-cart button or subscribe option, a “100% No-BS Guarantee,” and a reminder that others have proven themselves worthy of the beverage (“1,000+ customer reviews”).

2. GetVineBox

getvinebox homepge

Alexa Rank: #218,460

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: GetVineBox is a brilliant example of a Shopify store solving a problem for its target market. Combining a premium experience with a budget you won’t cringe at, GetVineBox lets wine lovers enjoy global gourmet wines from the comfort of their own homes.

The website utilizes soft and sophisticated background colors to match the premium delivery experience they’re offering. On the homepage, you’ll find information on how to get started with VineBox and the perks of the wine delivery service. Checking out the blog will give you valuable insight into a wine lover’s paradise, so you can combine your by-the-glass wine tasting with professional tips, tricks, and bonus information… Helping lovers feel like connoisseurs in an instant! One of our favorite features of this website is the disability-friendly button found at the bottom of the page, making the online store genuinely accessible and inclusive.

E-stores are going to make the big bucks this year.

You can do it too.

You can do it too.

3. Chocolate Alchemy

chocolate alchemy homepage

Alexa Rank: #796,121

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Cocoa

What they do well: Although Chocolate Alchemy doesn’t have the most professional-looking online store (in our opinion), it’s still a highly successful e-commerce store with a respectable following. The brand is aimed at users who want to make their own chocolate, and is packed full of recipes, hints, tips, and tricks to improve your choccy-cooking skills. You’ll also find all the products and tools you need to make your own chocolate from home, from cocoa beans to molds. The SEO-friendly information on making your own chocolate is very well done, and the hero banner is beautifully designed to attract chocolate lovers.

Diet & Fitness

Creating trendy Shopify stores that convert can be easier said than done, particularly in the health, diet, and wellness industries. Here are some of the best Shopify stores that pack a punch!

4. Huel

huel hompeage

Alexa Rank: #28,066

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Huel (Human + Fuel) started back in 2015 by Julian Hearn with a simple mission: “to make nutritionally complete, convenient, affordable food” with a minimal impact on animals and the planet. Today, Huel is a leader in nutritionally complete meals and supplements and is a well-known name in the diet and fitness industries. Like Death Wish Coffee, Huel takes a no-nonsense approach to marketing (although it’s considerably less aggressive)…

When you load Huel’s homepage, you’ll be immediately reassured that you’re onto a winning product, with claims including “the world’s no.1 complete food,” “over 150 million meals sold.” Short, simple, engaging copy captivates the target audience. Additional information on how Huel can help you achieve your fitness goals reinforces the USP (Unique Selling Point), while Huel’s Trustpilot score (Trustscore 4.6 | 8,000+ reviews) is prominently placed to install a sense of trust in the product and brand.

5. PartakeFoods

partake foods homepage

Alexa Rank: #71,797

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: PartakeFoods was founded by a mom fed up with buying allergen-packed cookies her kids couldn’t eat, so she took it upon herself to bake delicious cookies free from the top 8 allergens. She is creating a tasty, healthy treat in a range of flavors that children - like her daughter - could enjoy risk-free. This heartfelt story and message of inclusion really come across throughout Partake’s web design and marketing.

Emphasized with a customized theme that can only be described as sweet, the whole brand makes it clear that anyone can enjoy their favorite cookies without worrying about nasty additives or potentially dangerous allergens. The uncluttered layout with minimum copy lets the products (COOKIES!) speak for themselves, with passionate customer reviews adding social proof on every product page. From birthday cake cookies to brownies, PartakeFoods does a good job of focusing on the brand’s USP (“school safe and top 8 allergen-free”) at every opportunity.

The blog is also worth mentioning, as it’s insightful, friendly, and perfect for moms, dads, or anyone who’s interested in these planet-healthy, human-healthy, and risk-free desserts.

6. SkinnyMeTea

skinnyme tea homepage

Alexa Rank: #116,800

Location: Australia – customers in the US, Australia, and Canada.

Shopify Theme: Pipeline

What they do well: SkinnyMeTea puts social proof front and center of this successful e-commerce example, inviting visitors to “join over 400K happy sippers and save up to 50% storewide.” Although the store has dropped a few ranking positions over the last 90 days, the “original natural detox tea” company earned over $600K per month in less than a year in 2012, making it well deserving of a spot on our top Shopify stores list! The online store features straightforward navigation options and categories (“detox tea” vs. “everyday tea”), and the customer reviews (featuring before and after pictures) provide a really personal touch while demonstrating that the product really works.

7. Nutriseed

nutriseed homepage

Alexa Rank: #837,846

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom, based on Mr. Parker

What they do well: Nutriseed is dedicated to providing “naturally good,” earth-friendly, vegan snacks, juices, foods, and supplements that promote healthy living at every turn. The honest, down-to-earth messaging is key to the success of this e-commerce store. Perks are listed high on the homepage (free UK deliveries over £39.99, 98% customer satisfaction, 365-day guarantee) along with plenty of social proof from trusted publications.

The Nutriseed featured product highlights the benefits, and there is a strong focus on “Why Nutriseed” everywhere you look. To pull customers in further, you’ll find invitations to submit your own images for the chance to be featured on the website and win free stuff – and who doesn’t like free stuff?!

Apparel & Accessories

It’s no secret that there are a lot of Shopify apparel stores out there, and clothing makes an easy item to sell, particularly for dropshippers. To stand out as one of the best Shopify clothing stores, you really do need to make an impact, like these fashion-forward websites:

8. Taylor Stitch

taylor stitch

Alexa Rank: #51,997

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Taylor

What they do well: Since the business was founded, Taylor Stitch has tripled its revenue annually, putting it among the most successful e-commerce stores around… and it was built with Shopify! The Shopify store is optimized for mobile browsing, with a smart, stylish, professional look and feel. The scrolling hero images are captioned with a tone of voice that suits the brand (“a classic reborn,” “handcrafted in Los Angeles,” etc.), and there’s a clear focus on sustainability with links to “our responsibility journey.” Taylor Stitch is an exciting business model, as shoppers crowdfund to raise the money to have designs made into products they can buy… And based on the store’s success, it’s clearly one that works!

9. Triangl

triangl homepage

Alexa Rank: #63,752

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Triangl is one of the best Shopify store examples we’ve found, consistently increasing in rankings with an uncluttered web design that puts the products first. We noticed very little copy on this online store, with images of #trianglgirls wearing the swimwear doing all the talking.

Loading the site provides you with a popup that welcomes #trianglgirls and invites you to subscribe to the email and connect on social media for exclusive discounts and perks. The brand does an excellent job of creating exclusivity with products that “aren’t available anywhere else” - meaning you can only pick up this exclusive swimwear line through the Triangl website - but otherwise keeps things simple and straightforward with no pushy sales.

10. United by Blue

united by blue homepage

Alexa Rank: #90,415

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: United by Blue is one of our favorite Shopify clothing stores, and it’s been rising in the Alexa rankings. The small banner along the top of the homepage gets straight to the point by telling you precisely how much good the brand has done so far – “3,622,197 lbs of trash removed” - and continuously updates and refreshes so you can track the real-time positive impact sales and shoppers are having via this brand.

If you want to learn more about United by Blue’s mission to remove trash from the oceans, you can click on the updating banner, or check out the “Mission” tab at the top of the website. For products, you’ll notice the hero banner features seasonal offerings, while new arrivals sit a little lower on the homepage.

If these don’t spark your fashion feelers, the easy-to-use navigation bar is packed full of other items, conveniently categorized into “women’s,” “men’s,” “bags & accessories,” and “sustainable living” with plenty of sub-categories to help streamline your shopping experience.

11. Tentree

tentree homepage

Alexa Rank: #137,831

Location: Canada

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Tentree isn’t the fastest loading Shopify store we’ve ever come across, which is a shame. Still, it does offer some incredibly stylish products with ethical business practices customers will love.

The online store is heavily focused on being “good,” with responsible goals (to plant 1 billion trees by 2030) leading sales emphasized throughout the website. Proof of their ethical status is clearly mentioned on the homepage and beyond (certified B Corp, Climate Neutral, etc.), which reassures visitors that Tentree isn’t all talk. The navigation is straightforward, with clear categories and plenty of information on products, projects, and more.

12. Naja

naja homepage

Alexa Rank: #207,902

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Naja might have dropped some Alexa positions lately, but it’s still a great example of successful, good-looking Shopify stores. The clean, beautiful layout and product images are perfect for an underwear retailer, and the online store works hard to showcase its stunning products and sustainable, do-good message.

There’s plenty of information throughout the store to help you feel connected and demonstrate how every purchase makes a difference. “Naja Points” is also an excellent example of a loyalty program done well, with a generous rewards scheme encouraging users to connect on social media, refer friends, and make purchases. You even get 50 points just for signing up - which is $5 off your next purchase!

13. Adored Vintage

adored vintage homepage

Alexa Rank: #260,662

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Shella

What they do well: Adored Vintage is a Shopify store that found a unique target market and business model aimed at “modern romantics with a penchant for timeless and feminine threads… that evoke bygone eras”. The simple website design offers consistent branding and looks sophisticated and beautiful throughout – just like the products!

The search bar offers easy navigation, while the product categories and sub-categories make finding the perfect product straightforward. We particularly love the “scrapbooks,” which are filled with inspirational quotes and images that match the online store’s soft, sophisticated, feminine feel.

14. Ketnipz

ketniptz homepage

Alexa Rank: #627,088

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Pipeline

What they do well: Ketnipz is one of the best Shopify stores, selling apparel and accessories designed by artist Harry Hambley (aka @Ketnipz). The online store has an appropriately fun and quirky tone with easy navigation options and a large search bar.

We liked that the newsletter signup didn’t need to be clicked away from before you can shop. Still, some additional category options (for example, the ability to filter clothing by type) would be beneficial. We also noted that this Shopify store seems to be better optimized for mobile than desktop, as the background didn’t format quite so nicely when we tried to access it using a computer.

15. Burga

Alexa Rank: #24,999

Location: Lithuania

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: BURGA’s strength lies in aesthetics. From the unique phone case designs that made them famous among fashionistas and style enthusiasts to their rich social presence filled with exquisite lifestyle photos. The same applies to their website: it’s filled with high-definition product photos, UGC (User Generated Content), and expertly crafted descriptions that boost the content to another level. When you load BURGA’s website, you know right away it’s going to be a pleasant experience. The site automatically redirects you to your local region. If you’re using a mobile device, it automatically detects the model and tailors the products to suit it. For example, if you’re using an iPhone 12 then the site will only show you cases for that model specifically. Want more proof of authenticity? An Instagram account with 300k+ followers, 5M+ cases sold worldwide, and 8-figure annual revenue should provide plenty.

Footwear

Alongside the best Shopify stores for clothing, footwear dropshipping and online stores can offer impressive success when combined with good marketing tactics

16. Allbirds

allbirds homepage

Alexa Rank: #9,125

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Duppit

What they do well: Founded by footballer Tim Brown and engineer Zoey Zwillnger, Allbirds is an e-commerce store combining comfort, style, and sustainability. The site features an easy-to-navigate layout with a personal feel throughout. The Shopify store emphasizes the brand’s use of natural, sustainable materials, and you’ll be able to find plenty of information on how the company acts as a force for good.

The blog includes some fascinating stories about Allbirds and upcoming collaborations (for example, with Adidas), which are a brilliant way to get visitors inspired and excited about new releases.

17. Helm Boots

helm boots homepage

Alexa Rank: #199,540

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Debut

What they do well: Helm focuses on offering high-quality products with uncluttered yet beautiful imagery that puts the product first. The brand emphasizes how the footwear is all handmade in the USA and offers free shipping and exchanges to help you “find the perfect pair.” This commitment to quality and customers is what makes this store so successful, and we particularly liked the “style quiz” and links to their shoppable Instagram feed.

Although the background and layout of this Shopify store feel incredibly professional, it’s interesting to note it’s made with the default, free Shopify theme, Debut, showing that you don’t need to spend a fortune for a stylish website or sophisticated brand image.

Accessories

Another category of fashion-conscious Shopify stores favored by dropshippers is accessories. As with fashion and footwear, accessory sales take some creative marketing and design elements to craft a website that inspires and encourages sales.

18. Wolf Circus

wolf circus homepage

Alexa Rank: #192,178

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Wolf Circus is probably one of the most successful dropshipping Shopify stores out there, with a stylish website that’s easy to navigate and showcases the best products. The navigation bar is well categorized, and we particularly loved the handy gift finder. The whole site is clean and uncluttered, with a huge hero image featuring one of the company’s best selling products, plus an easy link to a live chat/help center. The one downside of this website is that it was a little slow to load, particularly the email subscription popup that must be acknowledged before you can browse.

19. Minaal

minaal homepage

Alexa Rank: #288,399

Location: New Zealand

Shopify Theme: Prestige

What they do well: Minaal might be operating in a saturated market, but this company has done a great job finding a niche they can connect to (digital nomads), and it’s clear from the moment you load the website that the creators are in the niche themselves.

Not only is the clever marketing inspired and genuinely helpful to nomads or travelers, but the high-quality products themselves fill a vital need in the (very niche) target audience’s life… Everything from the product pages to the blog installs a feeling of familiarity and like-mindedness – which is probably a good driver of the impressive engagement they receive!

20. Toyshades

toyshades homepage

Alexa Rank: #370,016

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Envy

What they do well: After a sudden drop in the Alexa rankings, ToyShades is gradually getting back on track with an easy-to-navigate website and a stylish/modern feel. The slogan – “reassuringly affordable eyewear” – appeals to budget-conscious shoppers, while the overall aesthetics and content balance this to appeal to a market that wants budget eyewear that doesn’t look like budget. We liked that the subscription popup doesn’t take over the entire webpage, so you can start browsing immediately, and the link to customer support has a friendly and welcoming feel.

21. ParklandMFG

parkland msg homepage

Alexa Rank: #975,898

Location: Canada

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: ParklandMFG aims to create a sense of exclusivity and premium by not offering the products for sale directly on the website… So it’s not really an online store at all! Instead of providing a content-heavy homepage, they’ve kept it clean and clear, with plenty of relevant and SEO-friendly information on manufacturing, quality, and sustainable practices. Items are “available at select retailers only” (note the typo… This could be part of the reason the store’s rankings have dropped so significantly over the last 90 days).

Homeware & Kitchenware

As we’ve been stuck indoors for 2020 (and much of 2021), there’s been a huge refocus on home improvements and DIY. These awesome Shopify stores have worked hard to capitalize on the success and trend of a home-based lifestyle.

22. Made in Cookware

made-in cookware

Alexa Rank: #41,748

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: LeArts

What they do well: This is one of the top websites for cookware and kitchen essentials, with an impressive Alexa ranking and easy navigation on every page. When you load the store, you’ll be greeted with an eye-catching hero image featuring seasonable products and alternative CTAs inviting you to “shop sets” or “shop all.”

The Shopify store focuses on high-quality materials and craftsmanship, with social proof from professional chefs and publications to build trust. Our only criticism of this store is that it was a little slow to load, and it’s definitely better optimized for mobile browsing (it looks a little unfinished when loaded on a desktop).

23. Package Free Shop

package free shop homepage

Alexa Rank: #68,193

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Pipeline

What they do well: We must admit that we weren’t quite sure what they were selling when we first loaded Package Free Shop’s Shopify store… But it was obvious that there would be no packaging! The key message on the homepage – “sustainable swaps for everyday essentials” – and some examples of the “essential” products available, help alleviate this confusion.

Quite simply, the store offers sustainable swaps for almost anything in your household. The site feels incredibly personal, with everything (including the categories - “Lauren’s Essentials”) making you feel part of the zero-waste brand story. For social proof, you’ll find trusted publications the brand has been mentioned in, along with their Instagram feed and an invitation to connect.

24. Lunchskins

lunchskins homepage

Alexa Rank: #149,829

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: As soon as you load the homepage of this high-ranking Shopify store, you’ll be greeted with a popup offering 30% off in exchange for a phone number (not email), which we suspect does an excellent job of data collection.

The website then focuses on how Lunchskins does good for the planet, written in a way that makes shoppers feel like they are doing good by buying – “you’ve helped us replace 2.8 billion plastic bags + over 2.6 million plastic straws!” The blog is well-written and SEO-friendly, with high-quality engagement that is sure to be helping drive organic traffic to this site and is genuinely interesting to read.

25. Hem

hem homepage

Alexa Rank: #261,385

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Hem is probably one of the most good-looking Shopify stores on our list, with a clear yet quirky design that works well for the homeware brand. The featured product (currently a very stylish yet comfortable-looking “puffy chair”) takes center stage and is followed by “trending” products, “news,” and unique categories that are a delight to browse.

Staying true to the brand slogan (“Imaginative designs of obsessive quality”), Hem does an excellent job of showcasing unique and interesting furniture and home products that anyone looking to redesign their home won’t be able to help but be inspired by.  What’s more, there’s an easy link to connect with customer support that provides opening hour information on the homepage… A valuable aspect that’s frequently overlooked!

26. Haus London

haus homepage

Alexa Rank: #418,973

Location: UK

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Homeware e-commerce stores have had a pretty good year, with everyone being stuck indoors for 2020! Haus’ Shopify store capitalizes on the home improvements trend, with an incredibly professional and contemporary look that suits the business.

The color scheme and background help the products ‘pop’ on the page, keeping the images the most important aspect in this web design. The benefits of shopping online with Haus are clearly stated early in your browsing experience and throughout the website (10% off, free UK delivery over £100 with 1-hour time slot, no import duty for UK customers, etc.). You’ll also find details for the physical store in London if you would prefer to shop in person.

E-stores are going to make the big bucks this year.

You can do it too.

You can do it too.

Beauty, Cosmetics & Grooming

Going up against the likes of Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian makes this a tough industry to crack, but there are plenty of Shopify stores marketing their 100% natural and ethical products that have had loads of success in the beauty sector.

27. Kylie Cosmetics

kylie cosmetics

Alexa Rank: #38,475

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: When we tested the Kylie Cosmetics store, it was down for maintenance, but most people won’t be surprised to hear Kylie Jenner’s beauty company is one of the best Shopify stores for cosmetics!

Showing this e-commerce platform isn’t just for newcomers, Kylie Cosmetics features regular flash sales and products that sell out in minutes. Kyliecosmetics.com might have dropped its Alexa position in the last 90-days, but we doubt this is any concern for the mega icon’s range of beauty products.

28. Kim Kardashian West Beauty (KKW)

kkw beauty homepage

Alexa Rank: #73,729

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Featuring regular sales and products that sell out in seconds, KKW is a simply designed Shopify store with easy navigation and user-friendly categories shoppers will love. Kim herself regularly features as the model in the store, and the influencer proof in “Kim’s Must-Haves” is a great way to transform fans into customers. Considering the high sell-out rates of KKW products, the “back in stock” section is beneficial, and you’ll (of course) find plenty of links to social media in this store!

29. Beauty Bakerie

beauty bakerie homepage

Alexa Rank: #113,080

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Beauty Bakerie offers a unique approach to a saturated cosmetics market by associating their products with baking ingredients – for example, breakfast in bed eyeshadow pallet, lollipop liner, milk & honey highlighting palette. The website design and copy have an approachable, friendly, and appropriately sweet feel that’s consistent throughout the product pages, blog, FAQs, and beyond.

Prominent social media buttons provide shoppers with opportunities to connect with the brand, and you’ll find social proof with mentioned publications and customer reviews. The personal story about the founder is incredibly engaging and helps shoppers feel involved in the brand’s focus on being a force for good.

30. Makeup for Melanin Girls (MFMG)

makeup for melanin girls homepage

Alexa Rank: #320,137

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Narrative

What they do well: This gorgeous cosmetics company features an inspiring story and beautiful website design that strives to make shoppers feel empowered and understood from the minute the landing page is loaded. The modern brand uses social media well, with “Instagram Favorites” being the second header on the homepage, plus an invitation to connect using #MakeupGoals.

The newsletter signup popup features a fun fruit machine with the words “secret bonus unlocked” to make shoppers believe they’re onto a winner. MFMG’s inspiring story and goals are clearly paying off, as the Shopify store has risen considerably in Alexa rankings over the last 90 days – rising over 60,000 positions!

31. NCLA Beauty

ncla beauty

Alexa Rank: #333,623

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Prestige

What they do well: Offering “vegan & cruelty-free beauty” solutions, NCLA has increased almost 300,000 Alexa positions in the last 90 days… Showing a high demand for sustainable beauty and a testament to the effort that’s been put into this online store. This website is well-designed with a friendly feel, featuring a simple yet effective color scheme that matches the available products.

There’s an easy link to Facebook Messenger for customer support, and a Shoppable Instagram feed is featured on the website along with details to connect on that platform. We particularly like the order/priority of products displayed on the homepage (featured new products, bestsellers, “handpicked for you,” other categories) as it creates a clear, sensible, personalized shopping experience that not many top Shopify stores have yet perfected.

32. Fresh Heritage

fresh heritage

Alexa Rank: #355,662

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Fresh Heritage is a male “grooming products” brand with a story and unique tone of voice that they’re proud to share. The USP of the brand - “organic, all-natural products inspired by Ancient African traditions” - is immediately visible when you load the homepage, and you’ll find plenty of social proof with trusted publications and real customer reviews throughout the site to boost trustworthiness.

The simple, clean layout lets the high-quality products do the talking, with easy navigation, consistent branding, and a professional, product-focused color scheme. The ‘about us’ story is particularly engaging and personal, even including a video for an added personal touch that visitors will love.

33. Smarty Pits

smartypits homepage

Alexa Rank: #529,735

Location: “Available in more than 5,000 locations globally”

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Smarty Pits took a sudden drop in Alexa rankings recently, but it’s still a great example of a successful Shopify store creating natural products with a store that feels approachable and engaging. The hero banner on the homepage is focused on “how your purchase saves lives” and provides additional information about the ingredients the natural deodorant is “free-from” underneath.

We really like the featured sections “picks of the month” and “real reviews from real customers,” both of which added to the personal and friendly tone of voice of the brand and helped us navigate to the perfect product for our needs. There’s loads of information in this Shopify store without it feeling overwhelming, and the personal, heart-warming story included on the website is a great way to help you feel connected to the company and its mission.

34. Terrebleu

terrebleu homepage

Alexa Rank: 587,408

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Vantage

What they do well: Terrebleu might have dropped a few Alexa rankings over the last 90 days, but it’s still one of our favorite e-commerce Shopify site examples. The hero banner is intriguing (what is “beyond the yellow door”?!), and the engaging tone of voice makes you feel part of the story and adventure immediately.

Offering “a truly unique and authentic product,” Terrebleu is Ontario’s largest lavender farm and sells a wide variety of holistic and beautiful lavender-based products… It even sells culinary treats from lavender shortbread to jelly to lavender grey teas! In addition to the lavender products, Terrebleu also offers shoppers the chance to visit the farm in person. In terms of the website, the overall aesthetics are clean and clear, with an appropriate color scheme (you guessed it - lots of purple!) that adds to the customer experience wonderfully.

Misc/Other

There are so many success stories and Shopify stores in pretty much every niche and industry. For those looking for something a little more outside of the box and products that sell, check out these stores:

35. Quadlockcase

quadlock/case homepage

Alexa Rank: #80,679

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Quadlockcase has risen over 16,000 ranking positions in the last 90 days, highlighting the high-quality product and creative marketing this Shopify store owner has utilized. The homepage features a video slider that illustrates how the Shark Tank-approved device-holding products are perfect for basically any circumstance.

Navigation is straightforward with handy categories that allow you to search by activity or device, and there’s plenty of social proof from trusted publications to create trustworthiness. A cool website that matches an equally cool product, the design is uncluttered yet engaging that suits their users’ “active lifestyles…” whatever “active” might mean to you.

36. Pure Cycles

pure cycles homepage

Alexa Rank: #181,986

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom theme

What they do well: In 2012, Pure Cycles made almost $4 million in 2,000 bicycle sales, making them a hugely successful e-commerce business! Their simple mission – “to get more people on bikes” – rings true throughout the website, with plenty of engaging copy and eye-catching imagery on every landing page.

On the homepage, you’ll find best-selling products and personalized recommendations front-and-center, in addition to links to “The Pure Cycles Store” and “Why Choose Us?” sections. The straightforward navigation and convenient links make this website feel immediately accessible; whether you’re a pro cyclist or are just learning to ride, Pure Cycles is here to help and is always judgment-free.

37. Tattley

tattly homepage

Alexa Rank: #214,072

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Debut

What they do well: Tattley shipped 2.6 million custom temporary tattoos in 2015 and has been steadily increasing traffic - and Alexa rankings – since it was founded. The bright, vibrant, uncluttered website displays various products to suit a wide target market, and the color scheme and branding are consistent throughout.

To pull customers in and help them feel part of the story, there’s a simple yet engaging ‘about’ section right on the homepage. There’s an overall feeling of fun and a carefree attitude on this website, which works well with a temporary tattoo seller (it’s a tattoo, so a little rebellious, but temporary, so lighthearted and fun). It’s also worth noting that Tattley is another top-performing Shopify store that uses the default Shopify theme, Debut.

38. Bebemoss

Alexa Rank: #251,111

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Custom

What they do well: Although Bebemoss’ Alexa rankings are down slightly from the last 90 days (previously #225,440), this sweet brand message and personal story have helped it become one of our top Shopify stores. The engaging, SEO-friendly, and genuinely helpful copy and content throughout the website make shoppers feel immediately at ease.

The founder’s story features images of the real family behind the company, which is a lovely touch. Although these toys are a little on the pricy side, the website works hard to demonstrate the premium quality of the toys and how profits work to do good in the community.

39. Tsuno

Alexa Rank: #501,736

Location: United States

Shopify Theme: Ira

What they do well: Jumping over 80,000 Alexa positions in the last 90 days, Tsuno’s unique product and marketing easily earn it a spot on our list of the best Shopify stores. While sanitary products are often considered taboo, these organic, natural pads and tampons offer women an essential product with a difference and dedication to doing good.

50% of profits go to “charities working to empower women and girls around the world.” The scrolling hero banner does a great job of highlighting the brand’s three main perks: good value, profits to charity, and unique artwork on the boxes to bring a bit of beauty to your period.

Best Shopify Stores: Conclusion

Considering some of the most successful Shopify stores gave us a valuable insight into what makes a fantastic online store and what buyers are attracted to. We noticed that every store is elementary to navigate, and most feature convenient contact buttons that take you to a live chat, email, or FAQ section without leaving the landing page.

Although many of the top-performing Shopify stores use a custom theme, we found it interesting that many use standard themes, and there are even examples sticking with the default free theme… It’s good to know you don’t have to spend a fortune to create good-looking Shopify stores or gain success.

This review also provided valuable insight into the changing priorities of customers. While once it might have been sufficient to offer a high-quality product with an eye-catching design and website… Today, customers also want to hear about how your business engages in sustainable practices, cruelty-free manufacturing, and how you’re a force for good.
